Thursday Paddle - Savage Release + Middle Cacapon
Larry Lempert is going to the Savage River (Class III, technical, rocky). There is a projected release in a range from 200 cfs (which is too low for paddling) to 420 (which is fine). If insufficient water, our backup is the classic Bloomington stretch of the Potomac North Branch (Class II-III), also releasing - almost the same takeout as the Savage. If the Savage release is canceled altogether Weds. night, we could go to Stonycreek, PA, likely at natural flow. Tentatively, we will seek to arrive at our target at 11:00 a.m., and rendezvous time/location en route will depend on the participants. If you're interested--and flexible !--contact Larry at Larry.7313@verizon.net. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Alf & Bob Maxey will try a gentler (Cl. I/II) section of the Cacapon - predicted at 1,020 cfs - just below our usual run. Meet at Manassas at 9:00 or at WVa 127 at 10:45 to set shuttle. This is a new section for us, Cl. I/II, but said to be as beautiful as the Caudys Castle, etc. section we usually paddle. Please let us know that you're coming & where you'll meet us.
