An evening with FORVA. FORVA? Yes FORVA, which stands for Friends of the Rivers of Virginia. Keeping with our tradition of introducing you all to the local groups that advocate for our interests as boaters and nature lovers, you definitely want to learn what this remarkably effective and energetic organization has been doing to improve paddling in the Old Dominion. Our guest speaker will be Bill Tanger, Chair of its board, beaming in from beautiful Roanoke, VA. Lets give him a warm welcome.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED

An introduction to the world of stand-up paddleboarding. Many of us (like the program chairman) are so set in our ways. So, this evening, let us get off our knees and butts and see what this stand-up stuff is all about. And to do so, we have invited the pro, Greg Miller, Paddlestroke SUP, who many of us have had the pleasure of meeting when launching at Anglers. This will be an in-person meeting, at Anglers, starting at 6:00 PM. No registration necessary. Just show up and have fun.

“An Evening With Bill Masters.” Again we would like to highlight the entrepreneurs and innovators who so contributed to our wonderful pastime. And nobody fills that description better than Bill Masters, founder of Perception Kayaks. We are honored to have him visit and tell his story of having put kayaking on the outdoor sport map by making kayaks (and paddles, through his partnership with Harmony paddles and gear) available in quantity and available through a retail network vs. out of garages and back porches. Was your first love a Mirage, or Dancer, and for those who were early adopters of touring kayaks, a Chinook or Sea Lion? In anticipation of an interview format, you can help build the evening by submitting some of your questions to e_gertler@yahoo.com in advance. Don’t worry, we will still have regular Q&A afterwards too.

Call for future programs
We are always looking for new talent. We are always looking for ideas. If you take pictures or videos and would like to share them, do not be shy. It can be distant locales or you local favorites. If you have a talent to share, then teach us. If you want to share an alternate outdoor sport (like hiking, backpacking, caving) we would enjoy that too. The program chair would like to hear from you (e_gertler@yahoo.com, 301-585-4381). I eagerly await.
