Trip and Event Schedule
Wednesday, September 13, 2023
This evening, lets take a look at what’s up on the bank. Yes, many of us also enjoy two-wheeled exercise on dry land, especially on the ever-growing network of rail trails. One of the most popular of those trails is the Great Allegheny passage (GAP) which follows our beloved Youghiogheny and Casselman rivers. Good not only for fun, but for shuttles. So this evening we screen an excellent documentary on the GAP. Your feet will be peddling as you watch it.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED

“Ed’s first impressions of the great world (of rivers) beyond.” In 1984, your program chair, Ed Gertler, made his first of what was to be many excursions to distant shores to explore faraway rivers. But what an eye-opener was that first adventure! Join Ed this evening as he takes you down his personal memory lane (or memory creek), introducing you to the wonders of the old Yugoslavia.

Holiday Party Program
Wow, have we got a great show this evening. We will be again screening the very excellent documentary “Riversense.” I say “again” as we first screened it over 16 years ago. Were you there? Stealing someone else’s description, “This wonderful video describes the river way of life through the eyes of paddlers. The late William Nealy describes how whitewater shaped his life and marriage. T.R. Yon shows us the pro paddling tour from through his 15 year old eyes. Katie and BJ Johnson, video producers and extreme paddlers, share their perspective on the water and parenthood. And Dunbar Hardy earns his name with an inspiring recovery from breaking his back on a waterfall in Ecuador. This is not your basic extreme video, although there is plenty of whitewater action. This is a beautiful documentary done by its Emmy award winning director, Kate Geis.” And adding to the fun, Kate will join us (virtually) and maybe some of the cast, to introduce and answer questions. Yes, you have heard this before, don’t miss it. Bonus, if you cannot make the live party, you can register to receive it by Zoom. We will not be recording it, however, so do keep this date open. Showtime will be about 8:00. Happy holidays.
