- Starting up on Sun, 29 April - we meet at Pennyfield Lock parking at 9:00 to set shuttle to put in at Violettes Lock. Then we paddled across the Potomac to run down the old George Washington Canal , finishing by paddling under the C&O Canal aquaduct at Pennyfield. This is a class I/II whitewater run for beginners and others. We like to help families and beginners down moving water and work on simple skills like water reading, eddy turns, ferrying, and paddle group dynamics.
- By May 1 we convinced the C&O Canal to rewater the Pennyfield to Violettes section, so now we can meet at 9:00 AM at Violette's Lock for a trip without need for a shuttle. Tim Tilson & Wayne McDaniel and Peter Ryan are running this series.
Any change in meeting place or time will be posted on the CCA Trip Schedule
. If you'd like to be on the mailing list (ca 90 people), please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
. This allows us to notify our regulars when we're canceling because of high water, foul weather, or moving the meeting point/ meeting time to Pennyfield - or going on a different trip (think Seneca Creek, Anglers to Lock 10, Goose Creek, Antietam, etc. [The picture below is of surfing on the Ledge, the GW Canal's most significant (and friendly) rapid.]
