Patapsco - High Water (1,600 cfs) Run - 4/4/24
Author Last Post

We had 11 paddlers on the Patapsco, running at a juicy 1,600 cfs (AW maximum is 1,880). 10 of us were in K1s (Mark, Gary, Ned, Cotton, Peter, Ken D, Ken C, Sean, Hugh, and Nehal) and Anna was in her OC1. Some of the smaller rapids were washed out, but Suicide, Donut Bend and the new Bloede rapids had big and often irregular wave trains to contend with. We all made it down without any incidents. Between Donut Bend and the Ilchester Bridge there is a downed tree blocking most of the river, with a 10’ open passage on river right - be careful. The higher level makes all the rapids a notch higher; the Class IIIs become III+, and the II+ are IIIs. With the high flow we completed this run in under 2 hours! At lower levels, with more play spots open, this trip would normally take 3-4 hours.
