Sunday Paddle - GW Canal

The heavy rain on Tuesday/Wednesday increased the levels on many seldom-run creeks but that has largely subsided and only the Potomac is now running. Accordingly, for this week’s trip we will return to the Class II George Washington Canal. We will meet at 9:00 in the Violette's Lock parking lot (13948 Vilolette's Lock Rd. We will then cross the Potomac to run the canal and then return to Vilolette's Lock via either the C&O canal or, for the hardy, an attainment up Seneca Breaks. As always, please let the trip coordinator (Wayne McDaniel macinmd1@gmail.com, 443 542 8779) know if you will be joining.

The weather forecast is for a high in the lower 70s but with a 75% chance of rain so that will be a test for the weather whisperer abilities of your trip coordinator. The forecast river level is 3.6’ on the Little Falls gauge, a moderately high level for this section of river.

PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator in advance.
