Since the traditional venue has been restored, CCA can once again gather at Fletchers, picnic, and then paddle down to the downstream end of Roosevelt Island to watch the spectacular show framed by the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument.
Since we are covid restricted. if you plan on picnicking, bring food for yourself only and your own chairs between 5:30 and 6:30. If you wish to paddle only, we put in at 7:30. It takes about 45 minutes to paddle downstream, arriving in time to anchor and socialize before the first salvo at 9:00. The paddle back is in the dark, so carry flashlights and glow sticks. Most of the return paddle is lit by the bridges, Washington Canoe Club and the GW Parkway. It is only the final swing into Fletchers that is in darkness.
