Paddling Experience: Beginners who want to get started or improve their skills.
Equipment: Whitewater or recreational (rec) kayak, paddle, coast guard approved PFD.
Description: Based on curriculum from the American Canoe Association (ACA), this class will help you get comfortable with your kayak and the water surrounding it. Expect to get wet as we go through the basic strokes for maneuvering your boat and then proceed to more advanced strokes and boat handling. We will purposefully overturn our boats to practice wet exits and rescue skills. The weather will probably be hot, so a dip in the water should feel refreshing. However, be prepared for exerting yourself in the heat and bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water and possibly a snack for breaks. Look forward to having a great time and learning experience! Location: Black Hill Regional Park, Little Seneca Lake Directions: Please note several park entrances are closed, don’t just follow your GPS. Take Frederick Rd. / Rt 355 to West Old Baltimore Road, Left on Lake Ridge Drive, past Visitor Center to the next parking lot on the right, uphill from boat rental office. Carry your boat down the hill, see the boat rental office on the right, but you go left to the grass area near the gazebo, small storage building, and porta-potty.
