Sunday Paddles - Potomac - Violettes - GW Loop

Tim Tilson will lead a Sunday morning paddle on the GW Canal/Violette’s Lock. Meet at 10:15 am at the Pennyfield Lock parking lot to set shuttle. Contact Tim at hmslydia@msn.com or via land line at 703-273-9436. Cell phone (only monitored Sunday am after 900am) is 703-864-0802. The level is predicted to be 4.7. If the level is 5.0 or above, the trip will be cancelled. A final email will be send NLT 0700 Sunday morning to those who have indicated an interest in paddling. The weather prediction (as of 5:00 pm Friday) is for temperatures in the mid-60s with the chances of rain ranging from 24-47%. So rain gear will be essential. This is a 3 mile trip with a mile ferry across the river, then down through the George Washington Canal. The canal is Class I, but paddlers should have boat handling skills. The trip concludes with a final mile plus of flatwater to the take out at Pennyfield Lock. Depending on the weather, we may stop for a snack/knee break.
