Jill MacNeice Featured as 'Citizen Scientist'
What with the historic Potomac Interceptor sewage spill still featuring prominently in the news, it's a good time to note that CCAer Jill MacNeice got local news coverage this Spring as a "citizen scientist" volunteering to take weekly water samples along the Potomac with the Potomac Riverkeeper Network.
The Beacon news organization featured Jill, along with a bird survey volunteer and a native plant enthusiast, in its article "Citizen scientists are down to earth," posted March 31. As the article says, Jill volunteers from April to October taking samples for e. coli bacteria and turbidity. Samples are analyzed at PRKN's laboratory at National Harbor.
The Beacon targets people 50 and over and their families. It publishes online and also distributes free monthly print editions in the Greater Washington area, the Greater Baltimore area, and Howard County.
