Training Offered to Guide Visually Impaired Kayakers

CCA members are invited to join Team River Runner's Blind Kayaker Guide Training Program Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Riley's Lock.

You will meet the TRR Vision Team, a group of six blind/visually impaired (VI) veterans from across the United States. You will learn how to guide them on the water in solo kayaks using vocal cueing. The paddling venue will be Seneca Creek at Riley's Lock. Lunch will be provided. No obligation.

Team River Runner kayakers

Trainees must have:

• Basic kayaking skills, with comfort in and around water. (Canoeists are welcome to train to be VI kayaker guides, too.)

• Appropriate gear for the weather and water conditions.

• Their own boat/gear; and bring the usual water bottle, sunscreen, etc.

The VI Veterans are here to race in the DC Biathlon the following day (coincides with the CCA picnic).
