Enders: The Wonder of Whitewater

Downriver Race 2025 - Yellow Falls

For the last three years, Yellow Falls has been Michael Graham's chosen spot for photographing the Annual Potomac Downriver Race. With his iPhone in hand, he positions his kayak in the big eddy river left of the wave train, "an easy place to peel out into the flow and help a struggling paddler."

"From a safety perspective," he says, speaking from a lot of experience unpinning boats and helping swimmers, "it seems to me that it has the greatest pinning potential due to the rock in the wave train just off to river left. A long boat or canoe could easily broach on the rock. From a photography perspective, I have a clear shot from a low angle that accentuates the size of the waves." And, we might add, the beauty of the water.
