Barring unforeseen rainstorms, this practiced novice class 1-2 trip will once again use the GW canal-C&O canal loop, meeting at Violettes Lock. Please note that the take out on the Potomac at Blockhouse Point is somewhat challenging due to the steep grade up from the river to the towpath and canal, and also due to the frequently muddy shoreline. Those of you who need or prefer to set shuttle from Riley’s Lock to Pennyfield Lock, where there are boat ramps, please go ahead and organize yourselves.

Your trip coordinator needs a headcount and to touch base with anyone new to paddling the GW loop. Email Lisa Laden at lisaladen@comcast.net to let her know you plan to participate and get the meeting time. If you’re setting shuttle but want to be join us, please check in as well.

If the group size is over 12 people, we’ll split into two groups.

PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator.
