We had four for a Thursday paddle on May 14. Wayne and Alf in K1s and Chris Kelly and myself in OC1s. The level was 3.0. Windy but otherwise fine. Nothing untoward to report.
We took out at Lock 10. A few things to note:
First, the parking situation has returned to normal. There is a pull off at the top of the entrance that leads to a work area. There are porta potties there. Finally there is a refab office at the bottom of the drive way. But otherwise it is back to normal.
Second, regarding the e coli levels in the adjacent water. We checked before we went. There was significant differences in testing results between various environmental and water agencies. Considering that there are often elevated levels in rivers due to animal manure run off, we decided to go. The smell wasn’t too bad at 1000 am due to the high winds. There was some smell 1230 pm but not bad.
Third, there is a NPS closed sign posted about 60 ft down from the tow path on the trail to the water. Also there are trail closed signs from the DC Water authority that are hard to miss.
