George Washington Canal @ 3.55' - July 13, 202...

16 paddlers (Alf C, Barb B, Beth K, Bob B, Bob H, Denise C, Dimitri & Oleg D, Jackie H, Kathleen S, Mark W, Mikey B, Temmy K, Tim T, Toni B and Wayne McD) braved the humidity for a standard run down the George Wasington Canal at 3.55' (6380 cfs), a good level for this river section. In view of the number of paddlers we divided into two groups and the second group subsequently divided again so we wound up with three distinct collections of paddlers. All made it safely to the Violettes Lock takeout with no reported carnage. Happily, the Jacuzzi Rapid route below Diagonal Rapid is now completely free of debris and several of us ran that after avoiding it for a couple years. Wildlife sightings on the GWC included a great blue heron who sheparded us much of the way and a bald eagle soaring high above. Back on the C&O Canal return trip, turtle counts of one, two and four were reported by the various groups. I'm guessing that the same turtle(s) were spotted multiple times, so don't think you can add those together.
