Swiftwater Rescue Practice Series
Author Last Post

Wed evening, 6-8 p.m., June 4, we had our first in the first-ever summer series Swiftwater Rescue practice sessions. We had a small but enthusiastic group of three plus the facilitator. The water level was 5.4 on the Little Falls Gauge, the water temperature was 67, and the air temperature was in the 80s. A perfect day for some in-water practice! We met at Lock 6, and warmed up with some dryland rope throwing practice, then quickly moved to an in-water venue, using the current at the Lock 6 gates. We practiced swiftwater entries, ease-in entries, defensive and aggressive rescue swimming (toes and nose up, vs. aggressive face in water swim to shore), and throwing and catching ropes in current. Taken all around, a very productive 2-hour swiftwater rescue practice session.
