This week we have two trips, to the Savage, if running at a good level, and the Upper Antietam. Larry Lempert will coordinate a trip to either the Savage (at a moderate level), the Casselman (at a higher-than-usual level), or the Bloomington section of the North Branch of the Potomac (at a level similar to or higher than the usual release). We were foreclosed from paddling the Savage last week when the release from the reservoir was suddenly cut. This week's trip comes with the same strong caveat: conditions create a good likelihood the Savage will be running at moderate level (between 400 and 600), but the target will have to change if the level is either too low or too high. If it's clear as of Weds. evening that the Savage is off the table, the trip will be to the Casselman—at the expected higher level, the bigger rapids are somewhat pushy and it's a wonderland of eddies and ferries. If the Savage is still looking good Thursday morning, we'll head there, with Bloomington as the backup. Carpooling to be determined depending on who's coming from where. If interested and flexible, email Larry.7313@verizon.net. ANTIETAM - This is a 7-mile run with three Class II+ rapids and numerous smaller rapids. It should be about 4' (a good level) tomorrow. Meeting place is the parking area just north of Devil's Backbone County Park (N39.5411, W77.7124) at 10:30. Pack a lunch. As always, please advise if you're planning to join.
