Swift Water Rescue

This is the American Canoe Association (ACA) Swiftwater Rescue Level 4 course, taught by ACA certified instructors.  The course teaches judgement and risk management to minimize the likelihood of serious incidents, and the skills to deal with incidents that still occur.
Prerequisites include ability to swim, confident boating skills in Class II whitewater, well-fitting whitewater PFD and helmet, solid closed footwear (no sandals, flip-flops, or aquasocks), clothing appropriate to the water temperature, and gear appropriate to your craft (kayaks and canoes with flotation, SUP, raft).

If you have rescue gear, bring it.  If you don't, do not go and buy gear before the class.  Come play with club gear in the class, and then make informed purchases afterwards.

This is a physically demanding class, and much of the class will occur in the river. Exercises are challenge-by-choice; if you are uncomfortable with an exercise you may elect to sit it out.

All participants must fill out the ACA Waiver and Insurance form.

Signed ACA waivers will be collected at the start of the class.

ACA Minor Waiver and Insurance

If you do not belong to the American Canoe Club (ACA) or to the Canoe Cruisers Association (CCA), an extra $5 is charged to cover the cost of insurance.  If you are an ACA member you must include your ACA number when your register.

Join CCA for $20 a year for the whole family and save the $5 insurance fee.
