Needles was running at 3,100 cfs, Whitehorse at 4,200.  Overcast in the 50s with rain promised that, thank fortune, didn't come until we were out of the river and headed for lunch at the Guide Grill.   13 head, being Mark B, John S, Marilyn J, Sheila Chapelle, Larry L, Lisa Laden, Barb, Glenn Douglass, Wayne, Glen and Ginny - and TL Alf and Gus A, who drove up together.   At the Guide Grill, the folks there asked if in future we would park on the terrain on the far side of the unexplained wooden fence that sprouted there a couple of years ago.   No problem.
Potoma Wayside was completely unoccupied, and we filled it with 6 cars and drove John's van stuffed with kayaks to the Bakerton put-in  There was no need to avail ourselves of the MCC, BRV, CCA  zero discount, as no one sought to charge us.   The 3,100 cfs in the Potomac was a bit bony at the beginning right after Dam No 3 - but became totally adequate after we joined the Shenandoah.
A couple of out of boat experiences in Whitehorse, but no harm.  And after it all, the slog up to Potoma Wayside.   Always so delightful out with my friends - thanks for coming out so late in the season.

A note on the gauge calculation for the Potomac part of the Needles - the next river gauge upstream is at Shepherdstown, which was 2.7’, 2,610 cfs, and 2.2’, 4,116 cfs at Harpers Ferry during the paddle. Ginny and Gary report have found that when the Harpers Ferry gauge is up to 2.7, more lines open up at the top of Needles and it becomes much less scrapy.
Needles flow equals Point of Rocks gauge minus Millville on the Shenandoah.  Whitehorse Rapid flow equals simply Point of Rocks.
