9 Paddlers, - Barb: TL - Allison, John S, Jackie H , Bruce C, Alf, Marilyn J, in kayaks; Tim, Mike K in canoes.
9:00 meet-up at Lock 10 - out at 4:30 - Long trip - I don't think there was a feature of the river between Great Falls and Lock 10 that we didn't play. (Except Offuts Rapid, which is dry below 2.8 ft. So, you ask, doesn't the title say 2.83? Well, we left home with a 2.77 reading at Little Falls, but the river ramped up in the morning - possibly the bubble from last week's Savage River release [see preceding T.R.] ) We descended into a low flowing Potomac at Fishermans Eddy, played at O-Deck, Rocky Wave, Wetbottom, Maryland Chute, Yellow Falls, and Stubblefield Falls. We then encountered a headwind coming down the homestretch to Lock 10. So we ended up returning to our P.I. vehicles across the Beltway Bridge in the teeth of evening traffic. Weather: warm - water 79 degrees, overcast. Difficult to say which piece of the fun (beside the headwind) we could have done without. Most excellent trip - and with two paddlers Allison and Mike) new to the upper Gorge - such a pleasure to introduce them to our local gem.
