Trip Reports

Rappahannock, Kelly's Ford, June 8th
Author Last Post
5 kids and 8 adults paddled the Kelly's ford section of the Rappahannock.  Two families and a solo paddled from Remington down and Jim Long met the group just before the rapids began. A 6 yr old in her sit-on-top and two teenagers switching back-and-forth on a SUP did stellar maneuvering through the rock gardens and even punching a few pour-overs and waves. We ended the trip with a stop at moo through ice cream. Everyone had a great day. I would recommend the river again for a family trip although the gauge was 600 CFS at Remmington and higher would be quite a bit more substantial.

Although there is word of a new put-in being built, there was no sign of construction, so the pull-off at the river right side of the business rt 15 bridge is still the best put-in. Take out was at river right side of Kelly's ford bridge was fine. No strainers.

The Williamsons also camped at the Rappahannock River Campground for three nights and we can reccommend that. I got out to surf-attain a bit from there. We also went fishing both on a pond in the CG and on the river and caught small mouth, sunnies, white perch, and a catfish.
