Little Falls - 3.7 - Sat, 8 June

by Beth Koller
Beth Koller and Zofia Kosim ran Little Falls after a brief warm up in the feeder canal and a run down the Z Channel. The river level as 3.7. The absence of rocks made the traverse to river right easier. The upper rapids were wave trains with a big water feel. There was one substantive wave for surfing for the adventuresome. Both Beth and Zofia ran the left side of the upper Little Falls Rapid—skirting the riverwide five-foot wave. The Maryland chute wave train started out with a four-foot wave and ended in squirrely water. Another group had two paddlers who ran the far river right slots on the Virginia side without difficulty. We were off the river by 1 PM so the tides were rising, but not at their peak during our run of the big drop.
