Inflatable Boom on the Reservoir

Gordy Lang at Sycolin Rd Put-In

We had paddlers' weather for this trip - rained all night to fill up the creek and then, right on schedule, the clouds cleared at 9:00 am and we enjoyed a beautiful sunny day. Six paddlers - Alf C, Barb B, Gordy L, Gus A, Pam W and Wayne McD. All kayakers, no open boaters, thank you very much. Quite warm for a mid-April run, near 80 degreees. In fact, it so warm that two paddlers elected to exit their boats for a refreshing dip to cool off. Golf Course rapid was pretty rocky at this level but we all ran it without incident. Saw the usual collection of wildlife - many geese (go figure) and ducks, one hawk soaring high above, a few turkey vultures and an enormous fish that leaped completely out of the water. Off the river and headed home by 4:00, well ahead of the forecast thunderstorm.

(Alf notes that we saw the new construction barge which Pam had previously found off of Trap Rock Filtration Plant, with a couple of motorized tugs to get it into place. It is probably part of the project for the two-foot diameter pipe running under the reservoir to a point on the right/eastern side, where a scar was visible. Following was an inflatable pontoon across the lake, possibly to stop oil slick [not seen] from passing downstream.) At the Dam, we found that ropes were helpful in lining down our boats - and recommend their use.
