Goose Creek/ Edwards Landing - Sun, 7 June
Author Last Post
Tim met Alf & Pam at the Kephart Landing on lower Goose at 9:00 - parking pretty tight.  Weather perfect - cool 70s, sunny, no breeze until reaching the Potomac.  First we surfed a bit in the final Clapham Mill Rapid - Goose Creek emitting ca 260 cfs.  Then turned and paddled out amidst a number of wading fisherfolk.  The Potomac - running at a high 6.7 ft / 14,400 cfs on the Ed Fy gauge - was easy to cross; the downstream wind had a greater effect on Tim's canoe.
While Pam & I nosed down the Maryland shore from Edwards landing proper to see the Canal connecting the C&O with the river, Tim did a shoreside recce and connected with our fourth member, Luke, who was joining us from Poolesville in a flashy yellow Bell canoe.  Back across the Potomac to introduce him to the Goose Creek estuary.
En route we encountered a gent exiting his kayak by means of a small floating dry-dock - an attractive solution to the indignities that come with advancing years .  We must petition the C&O Park to supply such an amenity at the Blockhouse Point Transfer.
