3 Trips - Violettes Loop and Seneca Breaks - 14 Ma...
Author Last Post

Today at Violettes Lock parking a changing caste of 12 paddlers gracefully maneuvered around each other at the recommended distance as they made their way to the twin put-in spots for paddling out toward the Trump Golf Club to start three separate journeys.  The parent group, under the watchful eye of Wayne McDaniel included Gary & Ginny, Alf, and Alan Gale - in his self-built wooden canoe - out on this stretch for the first time.  (Tim Tilson, not paddling because of a gimpy shoulder, nonethless appeared and helped get boats to the water - thank-you.)  Mike Korwin joined us in the GW Canal.  At the outset, Wayne gave the standard explanation to the group the itinerary and the need for enhanced caution during covid-time.

Following us by a river's width were Barb, Marilyn Jones, and Mike Aronoff, who, true to form, played on through, and was disappearing up the opposite riverbank into the C&O Canal as we were exiting the GWC over on the Virginia side.   Mike, incidentally, reports that a task force of kayak trainers, ACA wallahs, doctors, and the like are just finishing up a longish (did he say 100 pp?) set of guidelines for paddling with the covid.

The Canal is at a very minimal level, down perhaps 2 inches from the last time we paddled it.  Nonethless, the sawed-off tree at the Mile 21 transfer point can be passed easily, and at the downed growing tree in the Canal halfway up to Violettes I was able to cut out two more pesky branches impeding progress.
Finally, upon regaining the Violettes parking lot, we were joined by John Snitzer and Gus Anderson, who were set to go playing down the Seneca Breaks.
